The following is a release from the US Postal Service. I’ve never bought the Forever Stamp, but it seems to be a solid option these days.
I’d say by next year the stamp will be close if not at 50 cents.
Last Day for 41¢ Forever Stamp is May 11
WESTERN NEW YORK — The last day to purchase the Forever Stamp for 41¢ is May 11. When First-Class postage increases one penny, to 42¢ on May 12, the price of the Forever Stamp increases too.
“Customers are running out of time to purchase the Forever Stamp at the current price,” says Western New York District Marketing Manager Diane Mineo. “Forever Stamps purchased before May 12 can still be used on First-Class Mail after May 12 without having to add the extra penny postage. It’s like our first Postmaster General Ben Franklin advised, ‘A penny saved is a penny earned’ and that’s good news for our customers.”
The Postal Service created the Forever Stamp for customers last April to ease the transition during price changes, with over six billion Forever Stamps being sold since its introduction. As its name suggests, the Forever Stamp can be used to mail a one-ounce letter regardless of the current price of a First-Class Mail stamp.
Customers can continue to use Forever Stamps they purchased for 41¢ even after the pricing change. Starting May 12th, the price of a Forever Stamp will be 42¢. These stamps will continue to be available in booklets of 20 and sheetlets of 18.
The Postal Service has 5 billion Forever Stamps in stock and will continue to print more as needed. Also, customers don’t need to go to the Post Office to buy Forever Stamps. They are available to order online at usps.com, by phone at 1-800-STAMP-24, and from Automated Postal Centers (APCs).
