Batman tickets?

Batman is all the talk around the office. What are the chances of actually getting tickets tonight?
Everyone I’ve talked to said they bought their tickets days or even weeks ago!
Still, the wife and I will try hitting Fandango in a bit, once we see what our friends are up to and what show fits our [...]

The Tiger effect is taking place

Man, there’s been a lot of hockey and golf blogging going on at the Slugline these days….
Just a quick note: Some friends and I normally go to Akron, Ohio for the World Golf Championship at Firestone Country Club. It’s a great pro event that’s always been a lot of fun. Plus it’s so darn close.
This [...]

Reading a new book

I just started a new book titled “Rapture Ready” by Daniel Radosh.
I just happened upon it when my wife I stopped by Barnes and Noble so she could pick up Wicked. She’s prepping for the show in August. I read the jackets on a couple hardcovers before deciding on “Rapture Ready.”
There’s a lot to it, [...]

Fourth weekend is a shot to the old diet

I’m not really one to diet, but I try to at least watch what I eat and choose the less-fatty options when possible.
I’m not a freak about it, just conscious. But man o man, the Fourth of July — and possibly summer in general — is a bad time for dieters.
I don’t know if you’re [...]

Watch your dog on the 4th — or 5th in Lockport’s case

We get this sort of release every year going into July 4th. Kind of an interesting PSA. I guess it’s legit…
Scottsdale, Arizona-While you’re enjoying hot dogs, fireworks and freedom
this upcoming Independence Day, keep in mind that the loud noises and
outside celebrations are ideal conditions for your pet to declare its own
independence and run away.
PETS 911 [...]

Ticketmaster surcharges a joke

I know I’m probably the last to complain about ticket surcharges with Ticketmaster (and probably Tickets.com) but I really felt it today.
Today is our second wedding anniversary. We’re doing dinner, maybe a stop at the casino and then hang out at the Falls to check out the Canada Day fireworks.
Since Katie has to work summer [...]

Cool new way to rent movies

It may not be all that new, just new to me…but you may have seen these RedBox movie rental kiosks at different stores around town.
Basically it’s a computerized system where you can choose your movie, including new releases, with a touch screen and some simple prompts.
After swiping your credit card, the movie pops out of [...]

Cool post-NHL Draft e-mail

If there’s one proud aunt out in Cambria, it’s Debbie Kroening. Her nephew, Thomas McCollum, was the local kid (Sanborn) who was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings at the end of Round 1 in the weekend’s NHL Draft.
McCollum was profiled Friday in the US&J.
Anyway, Debbie, who happens to be a Town Board member and [...]

Aye, Aye maties — priate ship sails the Erie

Doug Farley from the Erie Canal Discovery center grabbed these shots of “pirates” from San Francisco that made their way to Lockport Wednesday.
He explains that the pirates didn’t say all that much, but the boat was fitted with a cannon…

Charging the pranksters

It’s that time of year again, where kids rent “gently-used” tuxes for the prom, cram for final exams and pick up a criminal charge or two for senior pranks. Ah, the sound of screaming police cars headed toward the local high school.
I never partook in a senior prank, but we sure have covered them here [...]
